Sweet and tender love story

My life started that day during a sports facility inauguration
to which I was invited as a congressman
and a party member.

When I saw her walking by across the street,
barely fifteen,
you were coming out of school.

And there was light, there was silence, and in a second
everything stood still and love was born.
Love was born.

You wore your school uniform:
a green sweater, a tartan skirt,
stockings up to your knees.

On your shoulders, a heavy school bag.
Who could be your carrier, your tutor,
your governess or your teacher?

To be always close to you
and devote to you all my attentions,
all my attentions.

They will shun me, take my seat in congress away,
just because I love you.
I'm finished, they'll expel me from the party,
it doesn't make sense.
And what am I to do? And what will my wife say
when she learns that I love you?
The whole world will want my head at their feet.

At their feet.

At congress meetings I couldn't do anything but think of you,
and day after day I visited your school
to see you come out.

Until one day love overflowed in my body,
sweet, violent. And, running, just like that,
I went to you and asked you:

"I'll walk you home, sweetheart".
I won't forget how you said "As you wish, sir".
"As you wish, sir".

Not long after our relationship began settling down,
we did homework together
while we walked to your place.

One day I even managed to invite her to see The Lion King,
when the hyenas lurked, waiting for the hero,
my little girl pressed herself against my chest.

And there was light, there was silence, and in a second
everything stood still and love was born.
Love was born.

They will shun me, take my seat in congress away,
just because I love you.
I'm finished, they'll expel me from the party,
it doesn't make sense.
And what am I to do? And what will my wife say
when she learns that I love you?
The whole world will want my head at their feet.

At their feet.

But like all love stories,
at least the most beautiful ones,
ours of course as well
ended in tragedy.

And when her mother found out she become hysterical,
she sued me, she hired a thug
to protect her little girl.

And a gray afternoon I went to pick her up and that thug,
in three places, broke my jaw.
Broke my jaw.

Soon the story was covered
by the media,
and a modern singer and songwriter
wrote me a song1.

For a while El Mundo2
dedicated me its front page,
and to make it seem more serious
Pedro J. 3 an editorial.

And radio and TV reviewers spoke about
how youth is lead astray.
Ah, how it is lead astray!

They will shun me, take my seat in congress away,
just because I love you.
I'm finished, they'll expel me from the party,
it doesn't make sense.
And what am I to do? And what will my wife say
when she learns that I love you?
The whole world will want my head at their feet.

At their feet.

The party's disciplinary committee,
cleary moved by envy,
instigated an internal inquiry
and they opened a record of my offences.

And after a long and hard torment I was expelled at the same time
from the party by the committee,
and from my house by my good wife.

And I was left alone with the memories of a little girl
in her school uniform,
in her uniform.

They've shunned me, they've taken my seat in congress away.
I don't care, I love you.
I'm finished, I've been expelled from the party.
I just want to be with you.
And what can I do if my wife kicked me out,
just because I love you?
The whole world is at our feet.

At our feet.

I'm sure: you will come to me
when mom and dad give you permission.
We'll be together—I know my love—
when you are older.

They've shunned me, they've taken my seat in congress away.
